Crow’s Nest Officer’s Club recognized as National Historic Site

On March 27, 2012, the Honourable Peter Kent, Canada’s Environment Minister and Minister responsible for Parks Canada, announced the designation of ten new national historic sites, persons, and events that define significant moments in Canada’s military history. Of those ten, one was our beloved Crow's Nest, home to the St. John's Storytelling Circle since the Circle's inception.

“Our national historic designations connect us to the cultural forces that made Canada what it is today. By understanding and appreciating our shared history and a sense of common purpose, we become a stronger Canada,” said Minister Kent.

If you've not been inside the Crow's Nest, come on out to the next Storytelling Circle, on April 12 with host Sharon King-Campbell.

Storyteller Sharon-King Campbell organizes event for World Storytelling Day, March 20th. #wsd2012

A.C. Hunter Public Library
Tuesday, March 20, 2012

4pm for kids, 7pm for adults.
As part of World Storytelling Day, the A.C. Hunter Public Library is proud to present two storytelling programs, organized in part by local storyteller Sharon King-Campbell.

"Ever since I started telling stories in 2008, I have been a little enchanted by the idea of World Storytelling Day," says Campbell, who will be telling stories alongside Stella Mair Evans, and Gary Green.

World Storytelling Day is a global celebration of the art of oral storytelling, celebrated every year on the spring equinox in the northern hemisphere, the first day of autumn equinox in the southern. On the day, as many people as possible tell and listen to stories in as many languages and at as many places as possible.

For families with children of all ages (children must be accompanied by an adult) there is an event at 4pm at the A.C. Hunter Children's Public Library.

"Tellers on Trees: A Programme for Grown Listeners" is at 7:00pm at the A.C. Hunter Adult Public Library.

Free admission. Register in advance by calling 737-3950.

Looking for a perfect spot to take your sweetie? Bitter, single and convinced love sucks? Well, either way, we have the night for you. The St. John's Storytelling Circle hosts the annual, crowd-pleasing "Love, Lust and Legends" competition at the Crow's Nest, with tales of love, of lust, and of love gone terribly, horribly awry. This is an open mic storytelling session, so bring your sappiest story or your recitation of rejection.

Hostess for the evening is the tea-licious Kelly Jones of Britannia Teas and Gifts, who is sponsoring the night, and providing a suitably St. Valentinian gift for the teller of the most romantic and the most heart-breaking tale, to be decided upon by you, the audience.

$3 at the door, Crow's Nest Officer's Club, just east of the war memorial, Duckworth Street, St. John's.
